Behind the scenes
Who are we?
Eugènia and Leandro are us, two Argentines who share not only Profānus, but also seventeen years of life together, and those still to come.
A historian and an artist who emigrated to Barcelona in 2025 seeking to understand our origins a little better. For this reason, we researched the legends and myths of the Catalan territories, becoming captivated by their stories.
Our dream is for everyone to fall in love with Catalonia just as we have.

#1
RESEARCH
The research began in Buenos Aires before the trip. We collected and studied many stories, and the writing soon followed. However, once in Barcelona, already immersed in the sources and more detailed information, we asked ourselves two questions: why offer another book of legends, when there are already many excellent ones? And why break the orality of these myths, knowing that writing could crystallize them? That is how we thought of a tarot, a tool that reinforces the original transmission of the stories and allows them to continue growing, mutating, and connecting generations.

#2
DESIGN
Just after arriving, the stage of visual research and initial sketches began. Getting to know heritage sites, museums, and obtaining facsimiles of codices such as the Beatus of Liébana became key stimuli for imagining the aesthetics of our deck. With a graphics tablet by the bed in a 25 m² temporary rental apartment, inspiration found its place to give shape to the 78 cards that today make up the Profānus tarot.

#3
DEVELOPMENT
Once the tarot images were finished, the legends inspired us to expand the experience into a more palpable world, and that is how the time came to conceive an entire universe around the tarot. Notebooks, journals, candles, oils, bags, scarves, prints, and tapestries that would maintain a conceptual, coherent, and direct relationship with the myths we chose for the deck. Each of these products was developed down to the smallest detail, under the strictest scrutiny, historical rigor, and cultural sense.

#4
PRODUCTION
Finally, the stage of research, interviews, and selection of suppliers who could help us turn our ideas into tangible objects arrived. We prioritized quality, organic, vegan, and artisanal materials, as well as professionals specialized in each of their crafts. That is how we created a family around our project, of which we feel deeply proud.

#5
DIFFUSION
Although we offer products, we believe the most important aspect of our brand is its intangible dimension. That is why we are committed to sharing, freely and accessibly, everything we have researched through our channels, both on social media and on our blog, so that more and more people can connect with the culture and traditions of Catalonia.
