A3 Poster of El Tarlà
It is said that when the dance of Death spread the bubonic plague through the streets of Girona, joy blossomed, embodied in the clumsy acrobatics of an improvised dancer: a young man with an indomitable soul who launched himself into the air like a jester of the sacred, conjuring hope in the face of despair.
When the foul breath of the plague finally dissipated, the living decided to honor the Tarlà. They raised him up as the king of rogues and the blessed, remembering that those who do not laugh have already decided to die.
Arcanum number 11 of the Tarot Profanus is the impulse of life that, after the chaos, is reborn with greater strength because, even upon the driest leaves, the most fragrant buds will always bloom.

INSPIRATION AND SYMBOLISM
Bring ancestral history to your walls: the sacred jester of resilience, joy, and vitality
The laughter that defies the abyss: the vital spark that is reborn after the darkest night.
When the shadow of the bubonic plague spread through the narrow streets of Girona, fear and desolation threatened to take hold of the city. But, amidst the quarantine and tragedy, an indomitable figure appeared: the Tarlà, a brave acrobat dressed in bright colors who would traverse the streets, performing jumps, pirouettes, and stunts to gift hope, laughter, and comfort to his neighbors.
Immortalized in the wooden and cloth figure that still swings above the streets of Girona today during the spring festivals, the Tarlà symbolizes the refusal to surrender to despair. He represents the playful, free, and inexhaustible force that transforms pain into celebration and chooses life even when death seems to prevail.
Inspired by Arcanum VIII (the archetype of Strength) from the Tarot Profanus collection, this striking print brings the luminous energy and triumph of the human spirit into your home. A facsimile reproduction of the detailed illustration, drawn entirely by hand and inspired by medieval aesthetics, this work becomes a daily reminder of perseverance, humor, and the capacity to be reborn after adversity.
Designed by art historian Eugenia García Domínguez and contemporary artist Leandro García Pimentel, this print has been created for lovers of Catalan folklore, popular traditions, tarot symbology, and historical illustration.

Behind the scenes
Who are we?
Eugènia and Leandro are us, two Argentinians who share not only Profānus, but also seventeen years of life together, and those still to come.
A historian and an artist who emigrated to Barcelona in 2025 seeking to understand our origins a little better. For this reason, we investigated the legends and myths of the Catalan territories, becoming captivated by their stories.
Our dream is for everyone to fall in love with Catalonia just as we have.
