In the shadowed folds of medieval time, Death dressed herself in dance to invite kings and beggars alike to the floor, and her choreography swept across Europe like a sombre wind at Easter. Her presence embodied the awareness of life’s finitude and a passionate love for making the most of it while one had the privilege to do so.

Today, the only living expression of that tradition is the Dansa de la Mort of Verges, in Catalonia, and it is preserved in Arcana number 13 of the Profanus tarot.
